Some Information about Barcodes and RFID Tags
Barcodes and RFID tags are simply ways of identifying things. Both of these can be used with ANT Inspector and ANT Asset Manager for identifying items and locations, and barcodes can also be used in ANT Asbestos.
Our standard barcodes use Code 39 symbology and are available as tamper evident self adhesive labels in rolls of 1000 labels using 3M 7871 thermal transfer polyester label material. We can also supply other styles and symbologies. Click here for the 3M 7871 technical datasheet.
RFID tags are available in a variety of packages in plastic or glass encapsulation. RFID tags are activated by radio waves from the scanning device and require no external power source. They are available as read only or read/write tags.
The thumbnail on the left shows some different RFID tag packages with a 20p coin to give an idea of size. Most of the space on these tags is taken up by the antenna itself which is very fine copper wire. The actual RFID chip is about the size of a pin head.
